Its no secret that yoga is good for the mind, body and soul. But today I want to give you our top 3 reasons why every kite surfer, from beginners to advanced riders, should consider practising yoga.

1) Improves Performance
2) Prevents Injury
3) Strengthens your whole body including the mind.

Of course, there are a whole bunch of other reasons why yoga is good for you. However, let’s dive into our Top 3 for kitesurfers.

Improves Performance – Reach your best abilities with yoga!

Our TOP reason for including yoga into our daily practice is how much it can enhance your kitesurfing performance! Yes, you heard right. Yoga is a diverse and dynamic exercise and when practised often it can improve balance, strength, flexibility and can even help with overcoming fear. And who wouldn’t want that when learning a new sport?

Start your day right with yoga and a strong mindset. Nothing can stop you! Visualize the day ahead and see yourself landing that new trick or getting on that board for the first time.

Roll out those knots from yesterdays session and warm up your body to prepare for today.

Prevents Injury – Treat your body right.

Remember your body is a temple and if you want to keep on kitesurfing then you need to give your body what it deserves and that’s some going TLCB ( Tender loving care baby) After all, we give our bodies an intense workout when kitesurfing. Did you know that you can burn up to 1000 calories per hour? Check this calorie counter to find out how much YOU burn and realise why your body needs the correct attention.

This should be a no brainer but we all know how exciting it can be when the wind is blowing and its been a while, we are desperate to go out and play. But wait, our best advice is don’t skip the warm-up! especially if you are going to be giving your body a hard workout in cold water! Protect those knees and give yourself 5 minutes of love before and after.

Stay Focused – Mind over matter

Kitesurfing can be overwhelming right from the first kitesurfing class. From that first doubt in your mind questioning if you will ever be riding the board, or overcoming fear to land that first kite loop. It all starts within our mind. Yoga can help us to focus on what we want and visualize our session/tricks ahead of time. It can be extremely powerful when used right (it can be similar to how professional athletes use hypnosis) it puts you in the perfect mind frame to go out there feeling confident in your own abilities.

How to start practising Yoga

Of course, there are yoga studios all over the world but kiter to kiter we normally find our self in remote areas trying to find the best wind spots. Like here in Paracas for instance. But don’t worry, we have you covered! You can join us anytime for yoga in our Zen den at Paracas Kite Camp.

The best thing about yoga is you can do it anywhere with no equipment and zero experience. So there really is no excuse 😉

Wait, you might be thinking I at least need an instructor right? Luckily, with technology today we can get one at the click of our fingertips. And better yet, kite specific yoga too, from experienced and passionate kitesurfers!
